Why do some assertive leader type women try to make you feel rotten for being ''girly''?

You have been nothing but respectful to them but they try to put you down or make you feel inadequate and step in line with the way they operate in the world? I have actually experienced this kind of nastiness for being soft spoken, always wearing dresses, being typically womanly/girly. I was a bit shocked. I did nothing. Minding my own business. I was patronised. I was insulted. I was called wishy washy and other indirect insults. This woman is a ''leader'', somewhat androgenous. She hated my guts and I felt like rubbish around her. I even wore dresses extra often when she disparaged my ''femininity'' just to pee her off for trying to make me insecure with who I am. And I find it ironic, I am the true rebel, I am the true non conformist in that particular instance. By being a vintage traditionalist I am being very unconventional and revolutionary in 2011..How ironic?
